Eight reformers. One instructor watching every line.
Coil is built around control, not calorie count — hands-on spring adjustments, a room engineered for precision, and no class large enough to hide in.
Studio-craft, not gym culture.
Coil opened in 2019 in a converted print shop on 4th Street, with twelve reformers, exposed steel beams, and a rule we've kept ever since: no class bigger than eight people. That's the only way an instructor can actually see what your left hip is doing.
We're not chasing a burn or a sweat count. Every class is built around spring tension, carriage control, and the kind of small corrections that change how your body moves for the rest of the day — at a desk, on a run, carrying a kid up the stairs.
If you've done Pilates elsewhere and felt like a face in a mat sea, this is the opposite of that.
What a first class actually looks like
No orientation lecture. You're on a reformer within ten minutes, working at a beginner setting your instructor sets for you.
Arrive & get set
Grip socks on, instructor sets your spring tension and foot bar height based on a two-minute intake. No forms, no waiver stack.
Learn the carriage
A five-minute walkthrough of how the reformer moves — footwork, breath, and how tension changes resistance.
Work the set
The full 42-minute sequence, scaled to you in real time. Expect hands-on adjustments, not shouted counts.
Reset & release
A short stretch sequence off the carriage. You leave loose, not wrecked.

Three people, one obsession with form
Every instructor at Coil is certified in classical reformer method and trains under our lead instructor for six months before teaching solo.
Mara Lindqvist
Nine years in contemporary dance before a hip injury sent her looking for a rehab method that actually worked. Now she's the one who'll stop your class mid-set because your pelvis tilted a centimeter.
Desmond Achebe
Former physical therapist assistant who teaches every Foundations class like it's a diagnostic — he'll clock a weak glute or a locked rib cage before you've finished your first footwork set.
Priya Ravindran
Trained under a classical Pilates instructor in Chennai for three years before moving to teach here. Her Flow classes move fast, but every transition is drilled until it's clean, not just quick.

Before you book
Not at all — book a Foundations class for your first visit. It's built for first-timers and every carriage is set to a beginner spring before you arrive. Most new members take 2–3 Foundations classes before moving into Sculpt or Flow.
Grip socks (required on the carriage — we sell them at the front desk for $14 if you don't have a pair) and water. Fitted clothing helps your instructor see your alignment, so skip anything too loose.
Cancel or reschedule up to 12 hours before class with no penalty. Cancellations inside 12 hours forfeit the class credit, since we can't refill an 8-person room on short notice.
Not on-site — the studio is a converted print shop with one main room and no space for it. A few members coordinate a rotating sitter through our class group chat.
Yes — Unlimited and class packs can be frozen for up to 6 weeks a year with 12 hours' notice, no fee. Just email or ask at the front desk.
Your first class is $35.
